United Technologies Named by STEMIE Coalition as Presenting Sponsor of K-12 National Invention Competition
MANSFIELD, Conn. (PRWEB) February 14, 2018 -- The National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Expo (NICEE) has named United Technologies Corporation as the presenting sponsor of this year’s competition, to be held at The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation May 31-June 3. More than 100,000 K-12 inventors from across the United States will compete to become one of the 400 invitees at NICEE.
NICEE, the only national celebration of K-12 inventors and entrepreneurs in the United States, is in its third year. NICEE was founded by The STEMIE Coalition, a nonprofit umbrella organization of youth invention and entrepreneurship programs across the U.S. and globally. United Technologies was one of the founding partners of The STEMIE Coalition and has been a supportive corporate partner of the Connecticut Invention Convention, a STEMIE Affiliate, for more than 20 years.
Danny Briere, STEMIE’s CEO, finds a natural fit between United Technologies Corporation and young NICEE inventors. “The tenacity of the student inventors of today,” noted Briere, “matches that of young Frederick Rentschler, one of the innovators whose work helped to build United Technologies. Rentschler refused to take ‘no’ for an answer when others told him to set aside his engineering visions. Instead, he plowed ahead to design and build the innovative aircraft engines he knew were possible, including the engine that took Charles Lindbergh across the Atlantic Ocean.”
“As a company founded by engineers and inventors like Frederick Rentschler, Elisha Otis, and Willis Carrier, it is with a genuine excitement that United Technologies supports The STEMIE Coalition, NICEE, and today’s youngest inventors,” explained Mary Lombardo, Vice President of Global Engineering for UTC Climate, Controls & Security.
The 2018 NICEE students will have the honor of presenting their prototypes in the storied halls of The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, alongside some of the greatest inventions of modern history.
