SR Education Group, a leading education research publisher founded in 2004, just published the results of their research and analysis of military-friendly online colleges. In order to develop the 2018 Top Military-Friendly Online Colleges list, published on GuideToOnlineSchools.com, the organization evaluated accredited colleges offering online degrees using factors that are important to military students. Additionally, SR Education Group highlighted colleges with unparalleled financial support for military students in the 2018 Top Yellow Ribbon Online Schools and features military-friendly schools with the lowest annual tuition rates in the 2018 Most Affordable Military-Friendly Online Colleges.

A school was required to offer at least 10 fully online degrees to be considered for the Military-Friendly Online College rankings. All accredited schools that met this requirement were evaluated based on four key factors for military support in online education: military culture, online support, financial aid, and flexibility. This year, SR Education Group used government data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs GI Bill Comparison Tool to evaluate schools in these four categories. Over 500 schools were considered, and 60 made the 2018 Top Military-Friendly Online Schools. Each school on the list earned a military-friendly score of at least 65 points out of a possible 100. University of Maryland University College tops the list with a score of 95.07.

UMUC is also ranked #1 on the 2018 Top Yellow Ribbon Online Schools list, which highlights the top 15 online colleges that offer unlimited financial contributions to an unlimited number of students through the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon Program is a part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill and allows schools to elect to support a certain number of veterans with additional funds, which the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs agrees to match. Online schools that choose to offer uncapped support through the Yellow Ribbon Program were ranked according to their weighted military-friendly score and named the 2018 Top Yellow Ribbon Online Schools.

SR Education Group manually researched annual tuition rates of online programs offered by all schools on the military-friendly list. These rates were calculated and verified in order to produce the 2018 Most Affordable Military-Friendly Online Colleges ranking on OnlineU.org, highlighting the top 25 military-friendly colleges committed to affordability. Western Governors University topped the list for the second year in a row, with an annual tuition rate of $6,380. Each school on the list offers an annual tuition rate of $12,270 or under.

SR Education Group has been publishing rankings of Military-Friendly Online Colleges since 2013. The organization plans to continue researching military support factors in online education and update the rankings annually.
