What Happened in the Former South Vietnam After the War Ended in April 1975?
EASTHAM, Mass. (PRWEB) February 20, 2018 -- “The World Looked Away: Vietnam After the War” (published by Archway Publishing) by Dave Bushy is the true story of Quoc Pham, a former South Vietnamese naval officer, his wife, Kim-Cuong, and their family. The book offers a glimpse into what unfolded when the Vietnam War ended.
Pham, who was sent to Re-education Camps after the fall of the country in 1975, was held captive for three years, but with the help of his wife, Kim-Cuong, escaped to Saigon and eventually, in 1980, made his way to freedom. He captained a 37-foot boat with 55 people aboard, departing into a storm in the South China Sea. It is the story of love, family and the struggle of a people in the aftermath of war – all while “the world looked away.”
After Bushy read a short piece about their escape into the South China Sea and then met Pham, Bushy was determined to tell Pham’s story.
“It is not another Vietnam War book,” Bushy explains. “Americans too often forget that that there are human beings who remain in countries after we finish fighting. We leave and somehow think that everything returns to normal. We look away. It happened after Vietnam, and, in so many ways, it is happening with our attitudes towards the many battlefields of the Mideast.”
