"284,000 California students earning graduate and undergraduate degrees are taking at least one online course,” Dan Schuessler, CEO and Founder of AffordableCollegesOnline.org. "The institutions featured on our ranking acknowledge the importance of online learning and are making higher education accessible to a broader group of students.”

Supported by data managed by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), AffordableCollegesOnline.org used a variety of metrics to determine which schools made the ranking and where each ultimately placed.
A few metrics include the average amount of direct financial aid awarded to students, the average in-state net cost of education for full time undergraduates, the availability of career and academic counseling, and, of course, the number of online programs and their variety. To be considered, all listed colleges and universities must be accredited public or private non-for-profit institutions.
