The International Code Council Names New Council Members to Represent APSP
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (PRWEB) February 22, 2018 -- The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) today announced the appointment of six APSP members to the International Code Council’s (ICC) 2021 International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC) Council.
“It is extremely valuable to have a range of perspectives and expertise in helping the ICC address challenges related to industry codes,” said Carvin DiGiovanni, APSP’s vice president of standards and technical. “The ICC received nominations from may highly qualified individuals, and I’m pleased to see such great representation from APSP members.”
Newly appointed members council members represent a variety of industry professions that join together under the APSP banner to promote a shared vision of a safe and sustainable world. They will be instrumental in the creation of the ISPSC 21 and will serve as an advisory body and international forum for discussion and deliberation about building design, construction methods, safety, performance requirements, technological advances and innovative products.
The International Code Council has incorporated the ANSI/APSP standards into the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC) which, when adopted at the state and local level, will require residential pools and spas to have the same level of safety protection that the VGB Act mandates for public pools and spas.
The following members will serve as representatives for APSP on the ISPSC 21 council:
Kenneth Gregory, is the manager of compliance and safety at Pentair Aquatic Systems. For over 20 years, he has held several positions in the industry. Prior to Pentair Aquatic Systems, he was the president of Evolution Pool and Construction Services. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Steve Barnes, is the director of science and compliance at AquaStar Pool Products. Prior to AquaStar, he was the Safety and Compliance Manger at Pentair Aquatic Systems. For over 30 years, he has been involved with the aquatics and manufacturing industry. Since 2004, he has been the Chairman of APSP’s Technical Committee.
Don Leas, is an active retired diving coach, coordinator and author who currently serves on various committees with United States Diving. For over 60 years, he has been involved with diving both as an athlete and as a coach. Leas has held numerous technical roles with high profile organizations and events including: United States Diving, FINA World Trials, Goodwill Games, FINA World Cup, U.S. Olympic Festival, NCAA, AAU, and the USOC.
Michael Ribnikar, is the vice president of operations at Premier Pools and Spas/DFW. For 40 years, he has been involved in the industry. In 2014 and 2015, his company was recognized as one of Pool & Spa New’s Top 50 Builders.
Shajee Siddiqui, is the global director of product safety and compliance at Zodiac Pool Systems Inc. Prior to Zodiac Pool Systems, Inc. he held various positions at Intertek Testing Services. For over 35 years, he has worked in the areas of product safety and compliance evaluation, and has held leadership positions in a variety of industry technical development standards. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Syracuse University.
Shawn Still, is the president and CEO of Olympic Pool Plastering & Shotcrete. For the past 10 years, he has served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Shawn is active in the APSP Georgia Chapter and serves as a director. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and English from The University of Alabama.
