Media Alert: Consul General Will Urge More U.S. Imports to China During St. Louis Visit
ST. LOUIS (PRWEB) February 27, 2018 -- WHAT: The Asian American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) and World Trade Center (WTC) St. Louis will host a
lunch and learn with the Consul General of China, Hong Lei. Business leaders are invited to learn about
current U.S-China trade relations and how bilateral ties are developing to create opportunity for U.S.
businesses.
WHEN: Wednesday, February 28, 2018 (11:30 am - 1:30 pm)
WHERE: World Trade Center St. Louis (120 South Central Ave., Suite 1200 St. Louis, MO 63105)
WHO: Hong Lei, Consul General of China in Chicago
Zou Xiaoming, Commercial Counsellor, Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago
WHY: The Consul General will invite more U.S. imports to China, in advance of the first-ever China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai November 5-10, 2018. The AACC will lead a group of St. Louis businesses to the CIIE.
“One of our aims is to enhance global trade and attract foreign direct investment in the St. Louis area as an economic development initiative,” said Al Li, AACC St. Louis president. “We want companies to understand that only four percent of their customers reside in the United States while 96 percent of their potential customer base is outside America. China represents a huge market opportunity for U.S. companies.”
IMPACT: China is currently the second largest importer and consumer in the world, with all indications pointing toward increased potential for growth in the next five years, estimated at upwards of $10 trillion in goods and services.
Enterprises from more than 100 countries and regions are expected to participate in the first CIIE. Support activities such as matchmaking meetings, seminars and product releases will be held during the Expo.
Mr. Hong was appointed Consul General in 2016 and has held positions in China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 27 years, including postings in San Francisco and the Netherlands. He previously served as spokesman and deputy director general of the ministry’s department of information and as counselor and division deputy director among other roles.
