MAST Academy Performing Arts Club Presents Musical Comedy, "Little Shop of Horrors"
MIAMI (PRWEB) March 01, 2018 -- The Drama Club of Miami-Dade Magnet School, MAST Academy, will soon present the 80's cult classic musical comedy, Little Shop of Horrors, in the school's auditorium. This is the first performance of 2018 and the first student-directed musical held at MAST in the last several years.
On Wednesday, March 7th, there will be a matinee performance starting at 3:20pm. On Thursday, March 8th and Friday, March 9th, performances will take place starting at 7:00pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $5 per person. Pizza and other refreshments will be on sale before the show and during intermission.
Little Shop of Horrors has been a long-running Broadway hit as well as a 1986 film starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin. It is a charming, yet dark comedy about a meek floral assistant, Seymour Krelborn, who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" after his coworker crush. The plant, a foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore, promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it human blood. Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this world origins and intent towards global domination!
The all-student cast is directed by student director, Chloe Schwinghammer, and faculty director, Dr. Casey Benton. Dr Benton is the sole performing arts instructor for the MAST Academy's seven grades (6th through 12th), in addition to being a professional vocalist.
The MAST students cast in the play's primary roles are as follows: Tomas Lopez as Seymour Krelborne; Amanda Marban as Audrey; Leandra Hall as Audrey II; Landon Watford as Orin Scrivello, DDS; Julianna Canizares as Mrs. Mushnik; Adrianna Tarridas as Chiffon; Gabriella de Gracia as Ronnette; and Pia Nair as Crystal.
The Miami-Dade Community is invited and encouraged to attend the show and support its local students and school.
The show, as well as the Drama Club, are student-funded through fundraisers and donations, as there is no school budget for said performing arts endeavors. Donations to the MAST Drama Club may be made at the show or by contacting Becky Watford at 305-905-4113.
