BALTIMORE (PRWEB) March 07, 2018
RIPM announces the release of RIPM Preservation Series: European & North American Music Periodicals on RIPM’s own specially-designed platform.
Containing complete publication runs often reconstructed by RIPM, this vast collection of primary source journals is unique and not available in any library. European & North American Music Periodicals (1819-1953) includes journals dealing with musical life in world capitals—Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Bilbao, Brussels, Budapest, Leipzig, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, New York, Prague, Rome, Paris, St. Petersburg, Venice, Vienna, and Warsaw.
RIPM’s flagship Retrospective Index with Full Text was described as “fulfilling a dream of productivity that is virtually unprecedented in the field of music scholarship” (reviewer, National Endowment for the Humanities). The new Preservation Series follows this model by offering a new approach to access and by increasing the speed with which full-text journals can be made available to users.
The RIPMPlus Platform for the Preservation Series offers keyword search access to the complete run of journals, including advertising, miscellaneous sections, and reviews. Its unique design also permits users to view full-text pages one after another, with a single click, moving seamlessly across journals and years, without having to return to one’s search results.
The RIPMPlus Platform’s new Combined Database Search feature also offers users fully integrated and simultaneous access to both the Preservation Series and to RIPM Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals with Full Text, with a single unified search results page.

Founded in 1980, and reviewed as “one of the major bibliographical projects in musicology of our time,” RIPM is a non-profit organization providing access to music periodicals published in Europe and the Americas between 1760 and 1966. One of only four internationally-sanctioned cooperative bibliographic undertakings in music, RIPM functions under the auspices of the International Musicological Society, and the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives, and Documentation Centres. RIPM benefits from the collaboration of scholars and institutions in over twenty countries, an editorial headquarters in the United States, and active research teams throughout Europe and the Americas. RIPM’s publications are updated every six months and chronologically complement those of RILM. RIPM produces four electronic publications: Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals, Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals with Full Text, European and North American Music Periodicals (Preservation Series), and RIPM Jazz Periodicals (Preservation Series, forthcoming).
