Gilbane Building Company Awarded Silver Award for Sustainability by Los Angeles Business Journal
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 01, 2018 -- Gilbane Building Company was recently honored at the Los Angeles Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards in Los Angeles, California on February 20, 2018 at the L.A. Hotel Downtown. Gilbane received the Silver Award for Sustainability for the California State University Associated Students Sustainability Center project. The university recently held a grand opening for the facility and the project was also certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in February.

This project showcases many sustainable features including a seminar room, a conference room, student workspace, lounge, a community resource center, restrooms and a covered courtyard which with both house equipment for recycling and serve as the rooftop structure for a 25kw photovoltaic system with approximately 100 solar panels. The building envelope is high performance, including glazing systems, enhanced insulation, durable and sustainable cladding, cool or green roof systems, and day-lighting throughout the complex to minimize energy usage. The landscape is drought tolerant and includes a bio-swale. A graywater system connected to onsite lavatories and sinks will be used to irrigate the projects landscape; a solar thermal hot water system and vacuum composting toilets have also been incorporated into the project.
