United Breast Cancer Foundation Attends The 2018 Young Survivor Coalition's National Summit
HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (PRWEB) March 01, 2018 -- The United Breast Cancer Foundation's (UBCF) Head Program Manager, Jamie Newberry, had the honor of attending the 2018 Young Survivor Coalition (YSC) National Summit at the Renaissance Hotel at Sea World in Orlando, Florida this past weekend, February 23- 25. YSC supports young adult Breast Cancer patients and survivors. The YSC National Summit is a 3-day national conference featuring inspirational speakers, workshops addressing the unique issues that young women with breast cancer face and special wellness activities. It’s an opportunity to connect with a community of other young adult survivors from across the country. A highlight for the almost 600 attendees included a 90’s theme party where the guests dressed to impress with their best pair of overalls (straps down of course), neon wind breakers, and shoulder cut outs. “Oh-snap!" Bring back some of the 90’s slang words while you’re at it. To sum things up, the conference was “all that and a bag of chips”.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, living with metastatic breast cancer or several years out from diagnosis, the YSC National Summit is a must-attend. Guests can connect to a community of other survivors and co-survivors (partners, spouses, parents, siblings, friends—anyone who supports you). Mrs. Newberry said, “As an outsider looking in, it was clear to see that guests were surrounded by a group of people that just get-it.”

“When you share a cancer diagnosis, it's easy to form immediate connections. You don't have to explain anything, and you have so much in common. You understand the trauma, the medicine, the surgeries and the emotional nightmares that continue long after treatment. This year's #YSCsummit18 was particularly emotional mourning the loss of Melissa and Allie, but I was so grateful to have friends like @rdulay by my side to cry, laugh, dance and learn with.” - Anna
Mrs. Newberry was invited to talk about the 7 unique programs that UBCF offers and gave each guest the opportunity for a Q&A session. By speaking to nearly 550 attendees from across the country, she was successful in educating and guiding breast cancer patients and survivors in the right direction for financial assistance. It was quite apparent that UBCF’s presence was valuable, as guests constantly told Mrs. Newberry they were excited to learn of about the grant programs and she would be hearing from them soon.
The YSC National Summit offered UBCF an incredible opportunity to network with the 52 other exhibitors and 28 sponsors that attended the summit. In conclusion to her direct involvement at the 2018 YSC National Summit, Mrs. Newberry shared, “I have discussed this before, but there is power in collective community, and power in numbers.” YSC’s 2019 National Summit will be held in Austin, Texas. Statistics show that there is an average increase of new guests by 30% from the previous year.
