Women In Technology Announces Renewal of $100,000 NCR Foundation Grant
ATLANTA (PRWEB) March 05, 2018 -- Women In Technology (WIT) has announced the renewal of a $100,000 grant awarded by the NCR Foundation to support programs designed to empower girls pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).
The grant, first awarded in 2017, will continue to be used to fund WIT Girls and WIT Campus programs in underserved communities within the metro Atlanta area.
"The NCR Foundation is excited to renew our commitment to a diverse and inclusive technology workforce of the future through investment in WIT programs, said Yvonne Whitaker, NCR Foundation Lead. "As proud, new neighbors of midtown, NCR is pleased to continue our partnership with WIT and strengthen our relationship with the Atlanta community."
Through grant funding, WIT has been able to provide approximately 200 underserved and first-generation college students with opportunity and exposure through hands-on STEAM programming, content and events.
The funding was also used to begin the WIT Internship Program which provided 13 high school and college students with 8-12-weeks of work experience at top Atlanta STEAM companies. The program was successful in providing students with the real-life application of careers in STEAM and ultimately resulted in full-time employment opportunities for first-generation college students.
"The investment that NCR has made in our WIT Girls and WIT Campus programs has an immeasurable effect on our ability to change the lives of our girls in our community. We are honored to be continually supported by an organization that is strategically aligned with our mission and vision," said Sandy Welfare, WIT Executive Director.
Over the past 25 years, WIT has served the Georgia STEAM community by making an impact on more than 3,000 professional women and 1,500 female students each year. Through corporate grants and investments, WIT is able to impact the lives of young women by providing access and exposure to free of charge programming that supports WIT's vision to be the state with the highest percentage of women in the STEAM workforce.
