MassCEC Selects USA Microgrids for Hull Community Microgrid Project
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) March 05, 2018 -- USA Microgrids, an OATI company, is pleased to announce its selection by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) as the Technical Consultant for the Hull Community Microgrid project. USA Microgrids will perform a feasibility study under a grant awarded to Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC) for the Hull Community Microgrid project. The grant application submitted by USA Microgrids and MMWEC is one of fourteen grants awarded in a competitive RFP process.
The Hull Community Microgrid project is part of a MassCEC initiative, which seeks to spur the development of community microgrids throughout Massachusetts to lower customer energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and provide increased energy resilience. The provision of resilient energy to the town’s critical infrastructure is of particular importance to the Town of Hull because it is highly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions due to its seaside location.
USA Microgrids will serve as the Technical Consultant for the project and will provide expertise to conduct the full microgrid feasibility study. The study will focus on the towns’ police station, located at City Hall, a senior housing facility, a city-owned vehicle maintenance facility, and a hotel used to house emergency personnel. Hull’s existing 1.7MW wind turbine, available for local generation, will be considered for pairing with additional solar power and battery storage to complete a microgrid.
“We are excited to partner with the Town of Hull in this project,” said David Heim, Associate Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of USA Microgrids. “Together, we can demonstrate how microgrids can modernize the power grid, provide environmental and economic benefits, and increase reliability for the Town of Hull and the state of Massachusetts.”
