"SHALOHA" (Shalom AND Aloha) Rabbi Rachel Short Welcomed to the UJUC
HAWAI'I (PRWEB) March 20, 2018 -- Rabbi Steven Blane, a founder of the Union of Jewish Universalist Communities (UJUC), is pleased to announce the acceptance of its newest member rabbi, Rabbi Rachel Short. Rabbi Short and her community are located on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Rabbi Blane stated: "The Union is thrilled to welcome Rabbi Short as a member of the UJUC and offer our support for the work she is doing. Her creative and eclectic approach to liturgy is both inspiring and healing."
Rabbi Short was ordained by the Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute ("JSLI") in July 2017. Her husband, a Jew by Choice, recently finalized his conversion process with Rabbi Blane and Sim Shalom online.
Rabbi Short is working with the Jewish community located on Hawai'i, the largest of the Hawaiian Islands. Her goal is to incorporate many different elements to make the service/experience almost like a Jewish healing/learning center - a synagogue, but for the mind, body, and spirit. Rabbi Short stated: "At the end of the day, I believe that's why people come to synagogue, to heal and connect with spirit."
Rabbi Short is the founder of "Ahava 'Aina" (the name is a blend of Hebrew and Hawaiian that means "love land" or "loving what gives"), a synagogue/healing/learning center presently located on their 20-acre property. Rabbi Short holds monthly Shabbat Services in addition to special services for Rosh Chodesh, Rosh Hashanah and more. Last year, she led a Passover Seder for over 50 islanders of all faiths, and had over 125 in attendance at their recent Hanukkah celebration. The community response to her synagogue has been so overwhelming that they've outgrown the space. A board of prominent community members was formed to establish a new location for Ahava 'Aina.
