Originally established in 1996 by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics, the Leaping Bunny program ( recognizes companies who produce cosmetic, personal care, and cleaning products that comply with the Humane Cosmetic and Humane Household Product Standards criteria.

Since its inception in 2014, MONAT’s mission has been to provide quality, naturally-based hair products alongside a culture of family, service, and gratitude. As a testament to this mission, MONAT was built from the foundation with a strong “no” towards questionable ingredients as well as animal testing of any form.

Leaping Bunny is today’s most trusted cruelty-free certification for non-animal tested products. This recognition is especially important to MONAT’s rapidly-growing family of Market Partners, all of which are proud to represent a product that embraces a more-ethical approach to science, research, and development—keeping in line with the mantra, “We Are Modern Nature.”

When a company applies for Leaping Bunny, they must include all their brand product ranges—individual brands or items cannot be certified alone. While products may claim to be “cruelty-free” as well “not tested on animals”, these claims may only refer to the product—whereas animal testing may still occur at the ingredient level. Leaping Bunny ensures that no animals were affected at any point of creation for any of MONAT’s products.

An estimated 115 million animals are used in worldwide experiments every year. According to a research article by Cruelty Free International, “Animal experiments are sadly not in decline, and in many parts of the world are on the increase (e.g. China) or remain at the same level as they were in the 1980s or 1990s (e.g. the UK, Europe).” MONAT currently distributes their products through three markets: Canada, United Kingdom, and the United States.

MONAT® Global joins a collective of over 600 companies who proudly share this special certification and commitment toward providing quality consumer products that are cruelty free on an international scale. To obtain Leaping Bunny, as well as maintain it, companies must complete a rigorous application process that includes demonstrating an ongoing commitment toward meeting their criteria.
