VMS Software, Inc. and Advanced Virtualization Technologies Announce VSI Cloud for VAX/Alpha Servers Running OpenVMS
BOSTON (PRWEB) March 08, 2018 -- VMS Software, Inc. and Advanced Virtualization Technologies Announce VSI Cloud for VAX/Alpha Servers Running OpenVMS
VMS Software, Inc. (VSI), the exclusive developer of the OpenVMS operating system, and Advanced Virtualization Technologies (AVT), today announced the launch of their VSI Cloud solution for VAX and Alpha servers running OpenVMS.
“VSI Cloud allows you to move your aging VAX and Alpha OpenVMS systems to the Cloud. Using built-in VPN tunnels, VSI Cloud can create virtual VAX/Alpha systems in any Cloud deployment model (private, public, community, hybrid). The resulting Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) implementation is a secure and cost-effective way to preserve your vital OpenVMS systems, while eliminating at-risk legacy hardware,” said Wayne Beeson, VSI’s Director of Services.
VSI Cloud Services will address the concerns of users running mission-critical OpenVMS applications on legacy DEC/Compaq systems. Moving to the Cloud now will allow these users to transparently migrate to x86 technology using virtualization expertise from VSI and its partners, AVT and Vere Technologies. The move to virtual hardware will improve reliability and increase failover capability while reducing maintenance costs and operating expenses.
Lynda Jones, Managing Partner at Vere Technologies, notes that, “The VSI Cloud solution combines the vtCloud virtualization layer from AVT with VSI Cloud Services. VSI and AVT manage the process of migrating the Open VMS system(s) to the Cloud. AVT configuration tools use VMS binary backups to create a VAX or Alpha virtual machine (VM) and upload it to the Cloud provider of the customer’s choice. An acceptance test phase is fully supported.”
VSI Cloud is an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offering that is cloud-provider neutral. Upgrading AlphaServers from HPE OpenVMS to VSI OpenVMS is recommended but not required. VSI is planning a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud offering in the near future, which will include the VSI OpenVMS platform as a fully managed service.
