Greenberg Traurig, LLP Of Counsel Anna B. Laakmann has been appointed to the Institute of Human Virology (IHV) Board of Advisors. As a member of the Board, Laakmann will provide strategic advice to the management of the organization.

According to the organization’s website, IHV is the first center in the United States to combine the disciplines of basic science, epidemiology, and clinical research in a concerted effort to speed the discovery of diagnostics and therapeutics for a wide variety of chronic and deadly viral and immune disorders – most notably HIV, the cause of AIDS. Formed in 1996 as a partnership between the State of Maryland, the City of Baltimore, and the University System of Maryland and the University of Maryland Medical System, IHV is an Institute of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and is home to some of the most globally-recognized and world-renowned experts in the field of human virology.

Laakmann focuses her practice on regulatory, enforcement, and risk management matters for pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotechnology companies. She counsels life sciences clients across the product development lifecycle on issues involving clinical research, commercial development, and promotional activities. Utilizing her training as both a doctor and an attorney, Laakmann possesses an in-depth understanding of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, healthcare fraud and abuse laws, the False Claims Act, the Hatch-Waxman Act, and the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly evolving medical technology marketplace. She has written and spoken extensively on the impact of civil litigation and government regulation on scientific research and the practice of medicine.
