New Agreement Provides U.S. Government Access to Environmentally Responsible eWaste Recycling Services

Hewitt, has announced that it has entered into a Subcontracting Agreement with Wistron GreenTech Corporation, Texas (http://greentx.wistron.com) to provide electronic recycling services to the United States Government. Wistron GreenTech is the green recycling arm of Wistron Corporation, which designs and manufactures technology products for global distribution and has an annual revenue exceeding $30 Billion USD.
As consumer and enterprise devices decrease in price, the Federal Government (and individual consumers) benefit, and the demand for products rises. However, this exponential growth in electronics manufacturing has led to rapid growth of end-of-life electronics or e-waste. eWaste includes dated computer equipment from enterprise levels to consumer devices such as televisions and mobile phones. In most cases, these items can be refurbished or recycled – however, most of these products still find their way to landfills.
These issues are gaining substantial increased attention by both industry and consumers alike, as well as policymakers. In the United States, 25 states have mandated electronics recycling, covering 65 percent of the U.S. Population. eWaste is also subject to the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
Perago Contract Specialists, in partnering with Wistron GreenTech provides an environmentally responsible and sustainable process for the Federal Government to dispose of the massive volumes of eWaste produced each year by its numerous Federal Agencies. Wistron GreenTech processes electronics and refines precious metals extracted from the eWaste in their 200,000-square-foot facility in McKinney, Texas. With their process, Wistron GreenTech is able to resupply manufacturers with the gold (and other metals and materials) necessary to produce other electronic devices, thus reducing the need for environmental damage from mining, reducing landfill disposal and complying with the RCRA. Wistron GreenTech’s process maximizes the efficiency in processes and reduces their waste output to 0.15%.

On December 20th, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that calls for an end to U.S. reliance on foreign sources of critical materials.
