ImpactPPA Announces Agreement with Earth Day Network to Promote Clean Energy Managed on the Blockchain

For 48 years EDN has been the leading advocate in the environmental movement worldwide and has been an effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment. EDN’s mission is to educate and activate individuals and groups on environmental issues and challenges, advance the green economy, and to coordinate Earth Day worldwide.

As a first project, IPP and EDN will implement a renewable energy system at the Edna Adan Hospital in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The hospital, which provides maternity care and has treated over 21,000 women throughout Africa, represents the life’s work of Ms. Adan, whose dedication to offering support and medical treatment to women in need is an inspiration to all involved with IPP and EDN. The Edna Adan Hospital provides training for health professionals as well as free treatment to many patients who need special surgery.
IPP CEO Dan Bates believes that the Edna Adan Hospital represents the perfect launching pad for this partnership with EDN. Bates says, “When we started talking about working with EDN, we were looking for a project that would not only showcase the use of clean energy and the blockchain, but one that would also offer access to energy and immediately benefit people’s lives. The Edna Adan Hospital became the perfect location for our first project together. The energy that we generate will power the hospital’s equipment and, subsequently, dramatically reduce the hospital’s electrical expenses, which are greater than $0.50/kWh. The money saved will go directly back into the care and services that Edna and her team provide for these women in need.”
Ms. Adan believes the support of EDN and IPP will not only assist in reducing hospital costs, but will also usher in a new era in which she and her staff will have the opportunity to increase the available resources they can offer women in need of maternity assistance and treatment.
