Diversity Children's App Explores World Cultures Through Cuisine
NEW YORK (PRWEB) March 14, 2018 -- Recently launched iOS app, Issa's Edible Adventures, seeks to broaden children's knowledge of the world through engaging culinary journeys.
The game is the creation of Aliya LeeKong, a professional chef, acclaimed cookbook author and Mom, who wants to use world cuisine as a common medium through which children and families of all backgrounds can explore each other's traditions and culture.
In an appearance on MSNBC's Elevator Pitch, LeeKong stated: "I noticed this lack of representation of children of color in new media. The app follows the adventures of a young chef as she travels the world and back to her mom's kitchen. Food is the entry point, but she ends up learning about geography, culture, language and heritage too."
The 3-D, animated app provides a fun and interactive experience for its users while acquainting them with cultures and cuisines from around the world. It not only uses a global story to thread in social studies, but it teaches kids how to cook in app (and they can print the recipe out at home).
The app's multiracial heroine, Issa, is based on LeeKong's daughter, Asya. Issa is joined by a diverse cast of characters who help her throughout her adventures and help the young chef learn more about the world.
Issa's Edible Adventures has been demoed at various conferences, the New York Hall of Science, Bank Street, and the Brooklyn Public Library among others, and the app has already garnered several awards and recommendations, including a five-star “Best of the Best” rating from Best Apps for Kids.
The app is now available for download on iOS devices from the Apple App Store.
