Dr. Paul LeBlanc Joins CareAcademy’s Board of Directors
BOSTON (PRWEB) March 20, 2018 -- CareAcademy, a leading provider of online professional development, training and certification for professional caregivers, today announced that Dr. Paul J. LeBlanc, President of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), has joined CareAcademy’s Board of Directors.
As President of SNHU since 2003, SNHU has become the second largest non-profit provider of online education in the United States growing from 2,500 to over 100,000 students. In 2015, LeBlanc won the 2015 NH Entrepreneur of the Year Award and Washington Monthly named him one of America’s most innovative university presidents. LeBlanc’s background and experience align with CareAcademy’s certification and competency-based online micro-courses to help caregivers meet the needs of elders and learn new skills to upskill into the allied healthcare workforce.
“Paul’s leadership and vision of the competency-based education model is the very thing that we believe will help build and grow the caregiving workforce to meet the needs of our rapidly aging country which will grow 13% to $279 billion dollars by 2020,” said Helen Adeosun, CEO and Co-Founder of CareAcademy. “We’re confident that Paul will add a tremendous amount of energy and expertise to further CareAcademy’s leading position in home and healthcare education.”
LeBlanc and the CareAcademy team met via lead investor Rethink Education in CareAcademy’s most recent $1.675 Million seed round in August 2017.
“I’m drawn to CareAcademy’s mission to create pathways to better paying work through education and training, especially for people on the margins of the workforce,” said LeBlanc. “Micro-credentials and just-in-time learning are part of our evolving educational ecosystem and CareAcademy is doing smart, important work in that space. On a personal level, I love the start-up energy and passion that Helen and her team bring to the work and want to support their growing success.”
LeBlanc has over forty years of experience in the educational field. Prior to SNHU, LeBlanc served as President of Marlboro College and before that, he was the Director of a technology start up for a global learning company. From 2004 to 2014, he served as Director of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), a non-profit that makes it easier for adults to get the training and education they need, and until recently, served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Under Secretary at the US Department of Education.
“Paul’s background and more importantly, his passion for making higher education accessible and affordable, is where there was an instant connection,” added Adeosun. “Our goal is to empower caregivers to learn how to deliver the best care to older adults. Having the benefit of Paul’s expertise as both an educator and administrator that has worked in both traditional and online arenas provides us with a deep bench from which to draw as we enter the next phase of growth.”
Under Paul LeBlanc SNHU was listed #12 on Fast Company magazine's "World's Fifty Most Innovative Companies" list and was the only university included. LeBlanc was also listed by Forbes Magazine as one of the "most influential people in higher education."
