Dr. Ralph H. Herron, who holds degrees in education and a doctorate in administration and served in the Korean War, has completed his new book, “Duty, Honor and Adventure”: an intense and sophisticated novel about the surprising friendship that blossoms between a soldier and civilian child during a war, a complex tale blending the war story with one of adventure, duty, and—most of all—family.
Dr. Herron skillfully balances the hard details of the Korean War with the softer, more meaningful details of humanity as captured in his character’s observations: “That evening at dinner, he avoided me, but the next morning, when I passed him on the road, I was greeted with a ‘Hi, Slim.’ In the days that followed, he found many excuses to walk through our hut, always eyeing me curiously, and always making it a point to speak to me. Before the week was up, he was a regular after-dinner visitor. He would sit on my bunk and chatter like a magpie about anything and everything. Skoshi and I were beginning to become good friends.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Dr. Ralph H. Herron’s new book includes photographs of the real “Slim” and “Skoshi,” and the base in Kimpo (Gimpo), South Korea, that inspired the book, providing an immersive look into the Korean War and the people it affected as seen through the eyes of a US soldier, a story full of heart and soul, and the antics of young Korean boys clashing with the mission of duty-bound military men.
Readers who wish to experience this memorable work can purchase “Duty, Honor and Adventure” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
