WGBH Boston will begin airing Season 8 of the Emmy-nominated public television series “Rough Cut” in April, with a new host, professional woodworker and teacher Tom McLaughlin, and a name change reflecting a new partner, “Rough Cut with Fine Woodworking.”

Woodcraft, an industry leader in woodworking education, will continue as a sponsor for the 2018 season. “Woodcraft welcomes Tom McLaughlin, a highly acclaimed woodworker and instructor who has appeared as a guest in several previous episodes, and anticipates the show will continue to provide our customers with excellent instruction in woodworking,” Woodcraft president Jody Garrett said.

Tom McLaughlin has been making and designing commissioned custom furniture since 1990. After years of higher education in his twenties, he decided at 29 to pursue his love for fine furnituremaking full-time. His training launched forward when he entered a rare apprenticeship with master craftsman P.A. “Pug” Moore in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. McLaughlin remained close to Moore, even after branching out on his own, which included returning to his native New England roots where he’s been making furniture ever since.

McLaughlin is a member and former chairman of the New Hampshire Furniture Masters since 1998 and has written articles for numerous newspapers, magazines, and woodworking journals. Learn more about McLaughlin at http://www.EpicWoodworking.com.

Each half-hour “Rough Cut” episode will feature unusual design inspiration turned into easy-to-follow projects for woodworkers at every skill level, along with the latest woodworking techniques and tips. Season 8 projects include a Craftsman-style dining chair in white oak, a Shaker-style hall table in cherry, a tilt-top round breakfast table in curly maple, a Shaker blanket chest with a drawer in cherry, and a live-edge coffee table made from New England walnut.

WGBH Boston is America’s preeminent public broadcaster and the largest producer of PBS content for TV and the Web, including “Frontline,” “NOVA,” “American Experience,” “Masterpiece” and “Antiques Roadshow,” as well as lifestyle and children’s series. Learn more at http://www.wgbh.org.
