Solution for Teacher Shortages Implemented in East Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (PRWEB) March 18, 2018 -- The 2nd largest parish in Louisiana, East Baton Rouge (EBR) realized at the onset of the 2017-18 school year that students and parents in their middle and high schools would be confronted with the reality of no teachers in their Math, Literacy, Science and World Language classes. EBR, like many of their peers across the country has become a casualty of the growing teacher shortage crisis. The Human Resources department vigorously seeks and recruits for these positions but have received fewer and fewer real candidates each year.
EBR recognized the teacher shortage crisis would affect academic achievement in their schools and realized they needed to change the way in which the district operates because doing the same thing to recruit and staff their schools did not provide a solution. School administration toured a nearby school district that implemented virtual K-12 staffing, live teachers from across the country were streamed into their classrooms virtually to lead instruction. To the administrations surprise students were highly engaged and academic achievement soared.
