AHA! & SBCC Invite You To Join Us In: Rising Together, April 21!
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (PRWEB) March 20, 2018 -- On April 21st, 2018, AHA!, the Foundation for Santa Barbara City College, and the Community Environmental Council (CEC) will host an event, Rising Together, at the Santa Barbara City College West Campus.
This project was inspired by the idea that as a community, we are stronger together, and have the ability to overcome any tragedy. It will provide an opportunity for agencies and organizations from the areas hard-hit by the Thomas Fire and Montecito mudslide to become linked in to one another: to gather, share resources, and connect with each other and the community – all in the context of building a giant work of art together: a symbol of our capacity to come together to joyfully heal and rebuild.
With AHA! Peace Builders and AHA! After-School program teens, we are working to gather individuals of all ages to come together at SBCC’s West Campus on April 21st between 9 AM and 12 PM.
The centerpiece of the day will be facilitated by Daniel Dancer of Art for the Sky. Mr. Dancer will guide us in creating a giant living sculpture made of people, which will then be photographed from above. Over 1,000 people will be the living medium for a massive artwork of a white dove rising from flames and mud. This inspiring ocean-view event will provide a great start to the CEC’s Earth Day!
We will also enjoy a performance by Ventura County recording artist Rob Write, whose recent single about the personal and community impacts of the South Coast’s fires and flood, “State of Emergency,” has been viewed online by over 20,000 people.
Agencies and organizations will have tabling opportunities during the event.
