Certified Master Technicians are the Ph.D’s of the service department. And Mercedes-Benz of North Olmsted just joined the Ivy League.
An unprecedented 90 percent of the dealership’s tech team has now earned the luxury automaker’s Certified Master Technician accreditation, easily giving Mercedes-Benz of North Olmsted one of the best-educated and best-trained service departments in the country.
Becoming a Mercedes-Benz Certified Master Technician is an arduous combination of hard work, training, education and ongoing learning, says Helder Rosa, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of North Olmsted, which is part of the Bernie Moreno Companies family of dealerships. Like an advanced degree, the process can take years.
“These are no ordinary mechanics; these guys know how these luxury vehicles were engineered and built,” says Rosa. “They know all the systems -- mechanical, electrical, technological -- and how they all interact, how the cameras, sensors and dozens of onboard computers communicate with each other. … Put them in a room with all the parts, and they could assemble a vehicle from scratch.”
Because Mercedes-Benz builds the most technologically advanced cars in the world, the training never ends, Rosa says. “Our Certified Master Technicians are learning new technologies and diagnostics literally every month,” he adds.
“Typically a dealership may have one or two Certified Master Technicians. A service department with 90 percent master technicians is unheard of,” says Bernie Moreno. “Having more of them on our team costs us more, in training and compensation, but it’s more than worth it.
“Mercedes-Benz sets the standard for quality and luxury. Our customers deserve that same high level when it comes to maintenance and service. Certified Master Technicians deliver that.”
