As a part of the foundation’s My Playground initiative, grant funding will be used to infuse play into the lives of deserving children in unexpected places.

Today, the Make an Impact Foundation, the North Carolina-based non-profit dedicated to promoting the education and well-being of all children, announced plans to construct 6 new playgrounds in Flint, MI this summer, as well as to continue its nationwide effort to provide more opportunities to play for kids who need it most.

The well-being of communities starts with the well-being of its children, and play is critical to children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Through play, children learn to problem-solve, think creatively, build friendships, and build strength. Play builds life skills.

Sadly, far too many many kids are missing out on the chance to play. “Screen time” dominates the life of the average American child, and in struggling communities, adequate and convenient play spaces are virtually nonexistent. The projects implemented by the Make and Impact Foundation support kids in getting the physical activity they need to thrive.

“Our goal is for ALL kids to grow up happy, healthy, and secure, particularly those who are often overlooked,” explains Flint native Dale Gillmore, founder of the Make An Impact Foundation. “Here in Flint, we know there are challenges -- economic issues, an ongoing water crisis. We can’t solve everything, but we can send a message to the children and families here that they are valued and that we believe they can reach their full potential. These playgrounds help to send that message.”

Since its inception, the Make An Impact Foundation has constructed four playgrounds in areas where they are needed most. 3 of those playgrounds have been in Flint: Berston Field House in 2016 and Broome Park and Hasselbring Park in 2017. The new Flint playgrounds will be completed by August 2018 at the following locations:
●    Dewey Park
●    Farnumwood
●    Cook
●    Eldorado Vista
●    Whaley
●    Clara Hilborn

These Flint projects are part of a broader effort by the Make An Impact Foundation to reach thousands of children nationwide. Learn more in this short video
