On June 30, 2017, Blackbird Technologies filed a patent infringement lawsuit against INRIX, Inc. in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware (17-cv-00877), concerning technology relating to determining traffic conditions by monitoring drivers' cellphone locations. The patent at issue is United States Patent No. 9,400,190, entitled "Real-time traffic condition measurement using network transmission data." Earlier this year, Blackbird Technologies settled with INRIX.
Wendy Verlander, President and CEO of Blackbird Technologies, stated, "This traffic monitoring technology has become such an important part of our everyday lives. It is inventions like these that plainly demonstrate the need to maintain a strong patent system. We are so pleased that we could help the inventor of this essential technology."
