Today, educators are collecting more student data than ever before. Information like academic performance, attendance trends, behavioral history, and the personal history of each student is readily available. When utilized by an education professional that possesses a deep knowledge of pedagogy, academic content and standards, and experience and judgment, the information the data provide becomes essential in personalizing a student’s education, thus aiding in achieving a better outcome for that student.

However, any collection of personal information, especially that of children, brings up significant concerns around student privacy, and rightfully so. But where does one successfully merge the importance of data and student privacy?

On Wednesday, April 11 at 1 PM ET, join Kerry Gallagher, an expert in K-12 digital learning and the effective and safe use of technology in the classroom for an engaging and informative live discussion on the topic of data informed learning and student data privacy issues. Kerry will engage the audience with hands-on learning around FERPA, a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records, offering useful information and resources for teachers. She will also discuss ways data can help inform teaching and learning, and strategies for teachers who are looking to improve their data literacy skills.

In addition to her full-time role as Digital Learning Specialist at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass., Kerry currently serves as Director of K-12 Education for ConnectSafely.org. She was best known for her paperless collaborative classroom model, and has helped schools create student-driven technology integration programs. Kerry is a 2015 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator. Kerry’s blog, Start With a Question, was named among EdTech K-12’s 50 Must Read Blogs for 2016.

There is no cost to join the webinar, but registration is required. For more information go to: http://bit.ly/2Gf6KXS
