ISSA Los Angeles Annual Information Security Summit X Training Schedule Finalized

Two days of in-depth training to include application security, embedded security, reverse engineering, cloud security, defense strategies, and deception techniques

The Los Angeles Chapter of the Information Systems Security Information (ISSA-LA) is pleased to offer business leaders, information security professionals, and students located in the Greater LA and Southern California with a collection of 1-day and 2-day training sessions during its Tenth Annual Information Security Summit [#SummitX] being held the first week in May, 2018. The 5 hand-selected training sessions are scheduled to take place on May 2nd and May 3rd—the first two days of the three-day Summit.

About the Trainers

Kevin Cardwell, from Elite Security and Forensics, served as the leader of a 5-person DoD Red Team that achieved a 100% success rate at compromising systems and networks for six straight years. He has conducted over 500 security assessments across the globe. His expertise is in finding weaknesses and determining ways clients can mitigate or limit the impact of these weaknesses.

Aaron Guzman, Manager, Gotham Digital Science, is a Principal Security Consultant from the Los Angeles area with expertise in web app security, mobile app security, and embedded security. Mr. Guzman has spoken at several world-wide conferences which include: DEF CON, AppSec EU, AppSec USA, HackFest, Security Fest, HackMiami, 44Con, AusCERT as well as several regional BSides events. Furthermore, Aaron is a Chapter leader for the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Los Angeles, Cloud Security Alliance SoCal (CSA SoCal), a Technical Editor, and currently writing an IoT Pentesting Cookbook for Packt Publishing. He has contributed to many IoT security guidance publications from CSA, OWASP, Prpl, and several others. Aaron leads the OWASP Embedded Application Security project; providing practical guidance to address the most common firmware security bugs to the embedded and IoT community.

Jim Manico is the founder of Manicode Security where he trains software developers on secure coding and security engineering. He is also the founder of Brakeman Security, Inc. and is an investor/advisor for Signal Sciences. Jim is also a frequent speaker on secure software practices, is a member of the JavaOne rock-star speaker community and is the author of “Iron-Clad Java: Building Secure Web Applications” from McGraw-Hill and Oracle Press. Jim also volunteers for the OWASP foundation where he helps build application security standards and other documentation.

Will Bengtson is senior security engineer at Netflix focused on security operations and tooling. Prior to Netflix, Bengtson led security at a healthcare data analytics startup, consulted across various industries in the private sector, and spent many years in the Department of Defense. Bengtson is on the BSidesSF and Bay Area OWASP leadership team. Bengtson contributes to numerous open source projects and has spoken on topics of security across the world.

Nag Medida is a Senior Security Engineer at Netflix working in the SecOps team, where he loves to spend his time on AWS, building tools and automating stuff with a passion for cloud security. Nag’s expertise lies in security automation for the cloud in the big data world, penetration testing, and security research.

“IoT incidents continue to rise, yet most information security teams lack the expertise to properly enforce controls around IoT technology,” said Aaron Guzman, Manager, Gotham Digital Science. “My class will enlighten security professionals on how IoT incidents are introduced into devices by performing hands-on exercises of real-world exploits IoT botnets currently use as well as techniques defensive teams can do to secure their IoT environment.”

The training sessions precede the full Summit which is being headlined by 2 keynote speakers and has over 30 sessions led by speakers such as Ira Winkler, Robert Hansen, Mark Weatherford, Chenxi Wang, Jim Manico, Georgia Weidman, Malcolm Harkins, Shannon Lietz, Jeff Bardin, Chris Eng, Jennifer Sunshine Steffens, Kevin Cardwell, Tammy Moskites, Gunter Ollman, Jerry Sto.Tomas, Mike Villegas, and Alex Wood.
