Vetrotech Saint-Gobain Releases First North American EPD for Fire-rated Glass Framing Products
(PRWEB) March 30, 2018 -- VDS and VDS Lite by Forster are Vetrotech’s unique fully insulated fire-rated framing and curtain wall brand systems known for easy assembly with narrow profiles that provide open vision areas allowing natural daylight without compromising life safety and design flexibility.
“As demand for sustainability continues to grow, Vetrotech Saint-Gobain contributes to the effort, by providing transparency on the sustainability of our fire-resistant life-safety glass and framing solutions,” says Kevin Norcross, General Manager of Vetrotech Saint-Gobain North America. “Globally, organizations are being tasked with quantifying and disclosing their environmental impacts across product life cycles. As a Saint-Gobain company, our mission is not only to improve daily life and create a safe space for building occupants but also to preserve the future of our environment.
“At Vetrotech, we have embraced transparency in our strategy, taking a life cycle approach to our products, to minimize their environmental impacts and eco-innovate for new glazing generations. We see an increasing number of requests for these documents on a daily basis.”
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the most rigorous and complete method for assessing the environmental footprint of a product or service, in a fully transparent way. Vetrotech’s LCA examines the total environmental footprint of the VDS product line, from raw material extraction to end of life. The results of the LCA are validated by an independent third party and disclosed in the form of an industry-first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). UL Environment is the program operator, and the EPD has recently been published on UL Environment’s Sustainable Product Guide.
“Saint-Gobain and its companies are consistently at the forefront of their product categories,” says Joe Traynor, Testing and Certification Manager for Vetrotech Saint-Gobain. “We produced the industry’s first LCA and EPD’s back in 2014 for our fire-rated glazing products and we continue to lead the fire-rated glass industry’s transparency and sustainability initiatives. Furthering its mission to better understand and improve their products, Saint-Gobain companies like Vetrotech are utilizing LCAs and EPDs to measure their impacts and monitor progress. The holistic view of these products facilitated by LCA empowers Vetrotech to implement product stewardship in a meaningful way; and in doing so, foster a more sustainable business model. “
