SECU – Maryland’s largest credit union – will donate nearly $11,000 to the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital (UMCH) through its Goals for Kids program.
SECU and the Baltimore Blast launched Goals for Kids late last year to celebrate SECU’s sponsorship of the Major Arena Soccer League champion Blast, which moved their home games to SECU Arena on the Towson University campus at the beginning of the 2017-18 season.
Through Goals for Kids, SECU pledged to donate $100 to the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital for each of the 109 goals scored during their 2017-2018 regular season and playoff home games.
The University of Maryland Children’s Hospital combines state-of the-art medicine with family-centered care to treat children throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
“SECU has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve, and we are very excited to make this donation to the UMD Children’s Hospital through our sponsorship of the Blast,” says SECU President and CEO Rod Staatz. “Both SECU and the Blast embody a commitment to excellence and a dedication to serving Marylanders. We hope our support will help UMCH continue to advance its mission to provide the best possible care for children of all ages.”
As a member-owned credit union, SECU has a long tradition of community outreach, including food and school supply donations to various local organizations and monthly employee volunteer initiatives. SECU also provides free financial education presentations in the community and financial assistance via programs like Kids Helping Kids, The Love Blanket, A Wider Circle, and The United Way of Central Maryland. SECU’s sponsorship of the Baltimore Blast continues its efforts to support the communities of Maryland.
Founded in Baltimore in 1951, SECU is Maryland’s largest credit union. SECU is ranked among the top 50 credit unions for total assets in the U.S, totaling $3.3 billion as of December 2017. Headquartered in Linthicum, Maryland, SECU has 22 branches and more than 100 ATMs throughout Maryland. SECU also provides access to thousands of free ATMs through the CO-OP network.
