In recognition of National Volunteer Week (April 15-20) Episcopal Community Services (ECS) has scheduled a week-long celebration featuring events and activities to highlight the importance of community-service and volunteering.

As one of the Philadelphia region’s oldest and most distinguished community service organizations, ECS relies on volunteers to support a wide range of social and educational programs that serve as the core of its mission – to challenge and reduce intergenerational poverty by giving people the tools they need to improve their lives and achieve economic independence. The Volunteer Week activities and events are designed to give current and prospective volunteers the opportunity to meet ECS leaders and staff, learn about the wide range of community-focused social and educational programs ECS supports, and sign-up with the ECS volunteer team.

Monday, April 16 – “ECS Volunteer Open House”

Opportunities for members of the general public to get involved in exciting and meaningful volunteer activities will be unveiled on Monday, April 16, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at ECS’ Main Building at 225 South 3rd St. ECS’ Young Friends Circle will host a Volunteer Open House and Volunteer Fair to introduce interested individuals to volunteering opportunities with many ECS programs, including:

  • Out of School Time Programs
  • The RISE Initiative
  • Wintershelter
  • Dolphins Companionship Program
  • Seeing Youth Succeed (SYS)
  • St. Barnabas Mission
  • Gift in Kind Program
  • Community Food Cupboard

Free and open to the public, the Volunteer Open House will connect prospective newcomers with fellow volunteers and spotlight the many opportunities for service that ECS offers. Representatives of the Young Friends Circle will be on hand to greet current volunteers and guests at a patio reception beginning at 5:00 p.m. outside the main ECS building at 225 South 3rd St, Philadelphia.

Inside the ECS Main Building, individual stations will feature information about specific volunteer needs for the organization’s many programs. Current volunteers as well as interested individuals are invited to join the fun and learn about the exciting volunteer activities at ECS.

Wednesday, April 18 – “Cultivating Volunteers into Donors”

On Wednesday, April 18, beginning at 8:00 a.m., ECS will present an educational program aimed at nonprofit development, communications and volunteer management professionals in social services. The program will provide tools and ideas for leveraging connections and converting volunteers into becoming long-term committed donors. An opening panel discussion will lead to a general discussion and opportunities for networking. RSVPs can be made through Eventbrite for this important event.
