Athlete Intelligence and Insurance Companies Take a Step Towards Safer Student-Athletes
KIRKLAND, Wash. (PRWEB) April 02, 2018 -- Athlete Intelligence, a leading sports wearable technology company, has brought its Vector MouthGuard technology to a one-year pilot program to look at ways to limit or better identify brain injuries, especially among high school athletes.
Athlete Intelligence, along with Munich Reinsurance America, Inc., one of the industry’s leading reinsurers, and Clear Risk Solution, a risk management and insurance supplier, partnered to outfit players at Bethel School District’s Spanaway Lake High School in Washington with 95 Vector MouthGuards for the pilot program.
The Vector MouthGuard uses an algorithm to measure, translate and transfer data to a handheld, mobile device. The mouth guard generates a 3D model of the player’s head and illustrates hitting behavior and impact exposure over time in a “heat map” view. The data can show the magnitude, location and direction of the impact, providing real-time awareness of injuries as they occur and reducing guesswork.
“The ability to collect data that informs the coaches on what to teach and reteach to the team or individuals is exceptional,” noted Bryan Streleski, Director of Athletics for the Bethel School District. “To collect data during practice and use that information is a huge factor in player safety.”
“Our technology captures the invisible data around every player and transmits it to the sideline," said Jesse Harper, CEO of Athlete Intelligence. "The information empowers players, parents and coaches with the knowledge they need to help improve technique and reduce the risk of injuries on the field."
“Athlete Intelligence and its cutting edge technology is a good fit for our clients--school districts and municipalities--as they work towards solutions to address traumatic brain injury among all high school athletes,” noted Brian Viscusi, Head of Client Underwriting for Alternative Market, Specialty Insurance, Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. “We are also pleased to work with the strong partners at Clear Risk and its owner Brown & Brown to implement this pilot program to get additional feedback during the 2017 high school football season.”
"Working with Athlete Intelligence allowed us to show our players the importance of keeping their heads up and out of contact. When they have a visual of where contact with their helmet happens, it gives our staff another tool to stress safety on the field,” noted Spanaway Lake High School Coach John Robak.
The 14-page case study, which is available as a free download from the Athlete Intelligence website, highlights the parameters of the program and how Spanaway Lake integrated the data from the Vector MouthGuards to improve player performance and player safety.
