Lymphoma Research Foundation Hosts Fifth Anniversary of Swirl: A Wine Tasting Event Series in Miami Beach
MIAMI (PRWEB) April 03, 2018 -- The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) – the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research and serving the lymphoma community through a comprehensive series of education programs, outreach initiatives and patient services – hosted the fifth anniversary of its national Swirl: A Wine Tasting Event series in Miami on March 20, 2018. Returning to the La Gorce Country Club in Miami Beach, the event raised more than $75,000 in support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation and its mission.
Representatives from National Wine Sponsor Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits were on hand to present attendees with a selection of award-winning wines that highlighted both Old World and New World flavor profiles. More than 130 attendees participated in the evening’s unique wine tasting and silent auction, bringing the total amount of funds raised since the inception of Swirl: Miami to more than $278,000.
“As an Advanced Sommelier, I hold the responsibility of education in the highest regard,” said Blake Leja, Director of Fine Wine Portfolio Strategy at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, Advanced Sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers) and Certified Wine Educator. “That is why I am thrilled to be able to present a fine selection of world-class wines in support of an organization like LRF, whose mission is to not only find the research that will one-day cure lymphoma, but also serve and educate all those currently struggling with a lymphoma diagnosis.”
This year’s Swirl: Miami featured a first-of-its-kind Young Professionals Committee, including area young professionals Sam Halpern, Simone Weissman & Zach Stein. The Young Professionals Committee members were joined by new national Swirl sponsors AbbVie, Genentech, and Kite Pharma at this year’s event.
“Year after year, we are thrilled to see the incredible outpouring of support for Swirl throughout the Miami community,” said Leigh Olson, Swirl: Miami Host Committee Member and Member of LRF’s Board of Directors. “By bringing new partners into the fold, including our first-ever Young Professionals Committee, we know that we’ll be able to build on this continued momentum of excitement for the next five years to come.”
Nina & Walter Andrews, Debbie & Kevin Fennessey, Barbara & Jerry Freundlich, Midge & Mark Halpern, Elsie & Gene Howard, Leigh & Cory Olson, and Florence & Robert Werner served as the evening’s Host Committee. For more information about Swirl: Miami, please visit lymphoma.org/SwirlMiami.
