Hilarie Bass Keynotes Stanford Law School’s Sixth Annual CodeX FutureLaw 2018 Conference
SILICON VALLEY, Calif. (PRWEB) April 04, 2018 -- Greenberg Traurig Co-President and President of the American Bar Association, Hilarie Bass, will deliver the keynote address at the sixth annual CodeX FutureLaw 2018 conference, April 5, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. at Stanford Law School. Hosted by the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics and sponsored by Greenberg Traurig, the conference gathers academics, entrepreneurs, attorneys, investors, policymakers, and engineers who are leading the transformation of the legal profession through technology.
Bass’s talk is titled, “Partners in Law: Breaking Down Silos Between Law, Technology and Innovation.” As president of the American Bar Association, Bass has advocated for increased use of technology to drive innovation in the legal profession, improve access to justice, and better train future lawyers.
Through the ABA Center for Innovation, projects already underway include an evidentiary toolkit for civil attorneys in partnership with the National Network to End Domestic Violence and a blockchain service tool to help low-income individuals in court gain more control over the trial process. Some of the partnerships involve testing apps that let people determine if they have been the victim of a hate crime and others that translate the Miranda warning into Spanish, including a slide show to help non-English speakers understand their rights.
“It is not easy to get unstuck from the past,” Bass said. “If it were, more of the legal profession would be receptive to the transformational change sweeping through our profession. But Code X is leading the way. The ABA and the rest of the legal profession are watching what you do with much anticipation. The future is now. We must continue to be bold, adventurous, and creative.”
Bass is one of the most prominent women attorneys in the United States and has successfully represented high-profile corporate clients in jury and non-jury trials involving hundreds of millions of dollars in controversy. She has worked and settled more than 100 cases, tried more than 20 cases to conclusion, and argued numerous appeals. In recognition of that success, she was inducted into The American College of Trial Lawyers. She is currently president of the American Bar Association, the world’s largest voluntary professional organization with more than 400,000 members.
