Newport Beach Balance and Ear Institute Will Present On Use of Virtual Reality For Treatment of Dizziness, Vertigo and Imbalance
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (PRWEB) April 04, 2018 -- Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance & Ear Institute (the Institute) is proud to announce its presentation titled, “Is This Real Life? Is this Just Fantasy? The Use of Virtual Reality in Vestibular Treatment,” at the American Academy of Audiology’s AAA Conference in Nashville on April 20th at 8:45 a.m.
The presentation will cover how the Institute has utilized virtual reality (VR) technology to prescribe patients remote Advanced Vestibular Treatment™ (AVT) using VR goggles and proprietary video content. Remote AVT allows patients to experience simulated real-life, over-stimulating environments with progressive desensitization and enables them to be treated from the comfort and convenience of their own home, as opposed to in the Institute.
Several of the Institute’s doctors of audiology will be presenting including: Dr. Jennifer Grace, Dr. Hannah Williams, Dr. Tin Truong and Dr. Stacie Pilgrim. They will cover clinical applications of virtual reality (VR) in the field audiology, specifically as it pertains to vestibular rehabilitation. They will demonstrate its usefulness with case studies from the Institute’s AVT program and share patient data to discuss VR’s efficacy compared to traditional Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) and non-VR treatment. This conference session learning module, worth 0.1 Continued Education Units, will expand the knowledge and understanding of the latest audiological technology, while presenting key findings from the Institute’s clinical research.
Key Learning Objectives:
1. Describe what a modern method of vestibular rehabilitation is and how it is used
2. Identify the uses of virtual reality in treatment and rehabilitation of vestibular disorders
3. Analyze case studies of patients who have undergone vestibular treatment with the use of VR
“We’re very excited to present our cutting-edge information and research findings at this year’s AAA Conference,” said Dr. Mango, Medical Director and CEO at Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance & Ear Institute. “Our research and development of this patent-pending virtual reality technology and clinical methodology is allowing us to provide remote treatment for dizziness, vertigo and imbalance to regional, national and international patients with exceptional treatment outcomes. We are passionate about our clinical and technological thought leadership in this new realm and excited to provide the industry of audiology with our insights.”
VR is computer technology designed to simulate or alter a user’s physical presence in an imaginary environment. Research has shown that the use of VR in clinical treatment across various healthcare disciplines is effective in treating patients including: enhancing gait in physical therapy, treating post-traumatic stress disorder and phobia management.
