The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to Present Online Clinical Trials Education for Patients and Caregivers
BOSTON (PRWEB) April 10, 2018 -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will present a free video education program for patients and caregivers that will help explain how to join clinical trials and what to expect when participating. Clinical Trials for Blood Cancers: How can participating in a clinical trial help me?’ will air live online on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 12:00PM ET on CancerCoachLive.com and be available for on-demand viewing through 2019, providing people affected by blood cancers information about:
- The role of clinical trials for blood cancers
- When a clinical trial is a viable option
- Benefits of clinical trials
- Role of a patient and caregiver before, during and after the process
- LLS’s Clinical Trials Support Center (CTSC)
“Clinical Trials are the only way the exciting breakthrough research we support at LLS can get to patients,” shared Gwen Nichols, MD Chief Medical Officer of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. “There is an urgent need for more patients to have access to these breakthroughs via participation in clinical trials. We need to make participation easier for patients and their health care team. Clinical trial participation should be an active part of cancer discussions starting at diagnosis, and no longer thought of as a 'last resort'. Patients and caregivers educating themselves is a great step and LLS is here to help.”
Patients and caregivers who attend the live program will have multiple opportunities to interact with program panelists and each other. Prior to the program, patients can submit questions to the panel through the program’s QBoard. Once the live broadcast begins, participants can continue to submit questions through CancerCoachLive’s Q&A feature to be answered in real time, as well as participate in live audience polling. The 1-hour program will feature patients, caregivers and clinicians including John P Leonard, MD of Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Alissa Gentile, MSN, RN, Director of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Clinical Trial Support Center (CTSC).
