ZoOm showcased it’s mobile physical access management capabilities at CES 2018 in a comprehensive self driving-car experience with IAV Automotive Engineering. ZoOm prevented unauthorized access, yet allowed authorized drivers to enter the car instantly, while automatically personalizing environment settings, allowing in-car purchases and giving access to advanced vehicle diagnostics.
Drivers enrolled into IAV’s app with ZoOm, capturing and encrypting the authorized user’s face image, verifying its three-dimensionality, and verifying over 20 liveness traits which were then used to create a user’s biometric “facemap”. The entire enrollment process was completed in only about 20 seconds. When the authorized driver accessed the vehicle, they used ZoOm to authenticate themselves on their smartphone, a process that takes only 1-2 seconds. ZoOm accurately compared the human the user’s mobile camera saw to the facemap of the authorized user. Once successfully matched, the car automatically unlocked and granted access.

After CES, Turbi, a leading Brazilian car sharing service, deployed their ZoOm-enabled app in only three short weeks. The Turbi app, now downloaded over 100,000 times, authenticates Turbi customers using only their face to unlock one of its fleet cars. Since the user’s 3D face cannot be shared or stolen, Turbi determined that only 3D face authentication was secure enough for vehicle entry. Turbi’s app is a milestone in biometrics: there are no passwords, no PINs, and no second or multiple-factor authentication requirements.
