MEADVILLE, Pa. They have three sons, Will Spear II, Kendell Spear, who died in 2012, and Chris Kolden. Kelley now resides in Florida.
Author Kelley A. Spear’s son was murdered at the age of twenty. Struggling with her grief, Kelley wrote “Poetry of a Divine Journey: Through Loss and Transition.” It was the only way she could mend her broken heart and maintain her sanity. Poetry became the outlet for her thoughts, her fears, and her frustrations.
“I was staying strong for my family, denying my feelings and suppressing my emotions, never hating but just numb—numb regarding my surroundings, numb to the continued acts of violence pledging my community, and numb to the non-actions of the politicians in the city. Then one day, I received a call telling me my car had been stolen from in front of my home. I thought I had it all together, but it is amazing what will trigger a memory and throw you into a spiraling tailspin into oblivion. I was in pain, a state of depression, filled with sorrow, angry, hurt and crying from the deepest core of my soul. You see, my son was killed in front of my home three years ago, and although I thought I grieved and was making it through my loss, I never really let Kendell go,” wrote Kelley A. Spear.
Without her writing, Kelley A. Spear could not have been there to save the rest of her family. Her struggle continues to be a part of her life, but she has learned God is and will always be in the middle of her life’s divine journey.
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Kelley A. Spear’s new book offers solace to those struggling with the death of a loved one.
