BALTIMORE (PRWEB) April 12, 2018 -- Pathsensors' VP of Product Development, Andrew Flannery, was a panelist for the US Department of Agriculture's, "Become a USDA SBIR Success Story!" on April 11th 2018.
Pathsensors received an SBIR- Small Business Research Grant in 2015, to fund the development of a 96-well plate reader, high-throughput platform for use in diagnosing plant pathogens using CANARY® Technology. This SBIR also included the development of assays that will address several plant pathogens of concern to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and National Plant Diagnostics Network (NPDN), including Ralstonia solancerarum causative agent of bacterial wilt) and Candidatus Liberibacter (causative agent of citrus greening). After three years, and the receipt of both SBIR Phase I and Phase II Grants, Pathsensors is currently completing the validation of these assays with USDA. While certain challenges have had to be overcome along the way, Pathsensors is an example of a success story using SBIR grants to build, develop and commercialize technologies that are valuable across a variety of applications industries.
The webinar was hosted by the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and the USDA SBIR Program provided overviews of both programs and tips for crafting successful USDA SBIR proposals. Pathsensors and another successful USDA SBIR awarded company shared about their experiences. This webinar touched on how and why to build a research partnership with USDA ARS when you are a USDA SBIR grantee. USDA ARS and the SBIR grant program encourage program applicants to develop these research collaborations with ARS scientists and/or license ARS technologies.
