HRMP President Contributes to Public Health Information Initiative
DANVERS, Mass. (PRWEB) April 18, 2018 -- HRMP President Jim Mange, FSA, MAAA, took an active role on a task force spearheaded by the Health Section of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) as part of a strategic initiative to educate actuaries on a range of public health topics. Mr. Mange led the task force's publication efforts over an 18-month period, which resulted in the development of important public health information and education resources now available as a website-exclusive series of "The Actuary," the magazine of the SOA, as well as the publication of several articles in the organization's "Health Watch" newsletter.
The educational series on the website of "The Actuary" addresses topics such as vaccinations, family planning, public health costs, community public health programs, and suicide prevention. It also includes an article authored by Mr. Mange that explains the evolution of public health from the achievements of the 20th century, such as vaccination, drinking water fluoridation, and infectious disease control, to current areas of concern, such as the public health effects of climate change and the opioid epidemic.
Mr. Mange commented, "It has been my honor and privilege to contribute to the SOA's public health initiative and serve on this task force alongside a group of distinguished insurance and medical professionals. It is our hope to focus attention where it belongs: on health, not health care or health care delivery."
