Carlson Environmental Inc. is happy to announce that this April marks our 30th year in business!

Founded in 1988 by Dr. Richard J. Carlson, Carlson Environmental has grown from a small firm of just two employees, to a family of about 20 full-time team members who have helped hundreds of clients close real estate deals, address environmental regulatory issues, and assist in site redevelopment.

“When I started this firm in 1988, I could not have envisioned what we have become today,” said Dr. Carlson, who retired in 2010 and sold the company to current Owner and President Edward Garske. “It’s been amazing to watch our company growth and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Carlson Environmental was founded at a time of burgeoning environmental awareness and regulation. Dr. Carlson’s experience as former head of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency made him a natural fit to start one of Chicago’s first environmental consulting firms.

“At that time, banks were getting nervous about lending money for building projects on land with environmental issues.” Dr. Carlson said. “It was a perfect time and one of our advantages was my time at the IEPA.”

Carlson and Garske agree that the family-focused culture at Carlson Environmental is what has driven the firm’s three decades of success.

“This company has always been about the success of our employees and clients,” said Garske, who was one of the company’s first employees. “We’ve weathered a few economic storms through the years and we have managed to hold on to many longtime employees and clients who are still with us today. I have always considered the Carlson staff as part of my extended family.”

As Owner and President, Garske remains fully involved in the day-to-day business of the firm, and his accessibility to clients and staff remains of utmost importance.

About Carlson Environmental
Carlson Environmental has been providing innovative and cost-effective environmental due diligence services to the real estate community since 1988. Since our founding, we have developed a strong track record of helping our clients achieve their business goals, whether it is closing a real estate deal, addressing an environmental regulatory issue, or assisting in site redevelopment.

Carlson has a consistent record of success in finding practical, cost-effective solutions for clients faced with increasingly complex regulatory systems and more challenging financial demands. Our staff of engineers, geologists, and environmental specialists is committed to our clients’ success and they take comfort in knowing that we are their advisors and a part of their team, and not just project managers.

Carlson is a nimble firm that is able to quickly adapt as deals evolve, site redevelopment plans change, or unexpected environmental conditions come to light. This core strength is important to our clients, particularly in times when business moves at the speed of technology and due diligence periods shorten.

While our initial projects were within the Chicagoland area including Wisconsin and Indiana, Carlson has grown to keep up with the demand of our clients. Though we still maintain our main office in downtown Chicago, we are also registered in Florida and Michigan. In addition, we have formed long-standing strategic alliances and teaming agreements with other reputable firms in locations throughout the U.S.
