“Let's Compare Scars”: a personal approach to helping others heal by example. “Let's Compare Scars” is the creation of published author, Dr. Rex L. Allen. Dr. Allen has served forty-eight years in the ministry as a State Youth and Christian Education Director, Pastor, Educator, and Missionary. He has also served five years as an Adjunct Chaplain to the US Navy. In addition to his ministry and pastoral duties, he served from 2009–2013 as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Civil Circuit and Family Circuit Mediator. He and his wife Dianne have been married 45 years. They have three children and three grandchildren. The son of a Minister, Missionary, and State Superintendent, he has spent a lifetime witnessing and working with people at their highest high and lowest lows. A veteran of the US Air Force, who served during the Vietnam War, Dr. Allen knows what it is to suffer loss and see the long-term results of emotional scarring. Today, he is a Clinical Chaplain with a very progressive hospice. He believes spiritual care is the best way to prepare people to transition from this life to the life that awaits them. Dr. Allen provides clinical counseling to families that have suffered loss.
Dr. Allen shares, “The tears we shed come not only from our eyes but also from the recesses of our hearts and deepest emotions. As we are able to move forward through our own healing process we begin to see that our scars serve as a foundational platform causing us to reach out to others who suffer in silence and grieve in secret.”
Dr. Rex L. Allen has learned the best healers are those who have been wounded the deepest and those who have reached the greatest heights. There is, after all, no victory without battle. That which is written within the pages of “Let's Compare Scars” comes from Dr. Rex L. Allen’s professional counseling experiences as well as a lifetime scarred by pain and suffering. It is his personal experiences that placed him on a profound journey to a place beyond the emotional impact of his initial scars.
Those who have discovered how to move beyond the scars imprinted at the deepest levels of their own human emotions realize they can walk and live in total freedom. They understand a complete restoration is possible. Somewhere within “Let's Compare Scars,” readers will discover they share a common bond with those who have suffered the same pain, the same hurt, and the same scarring. Like those who have already undergone the healing process, they will discover that there is life beyond emotional death.
