Rocket Boys the Musical Returns to Theatre West Virginia July 18

Rocket Boys The Musical at Theatre West Virginia

Rocket Boys, upon which this musical is based, is a vivid portrait of the tiny West Virginia mining town of Hickam's youth, evoking a time of innocence and promise, when anything was possible, even in a company town that swallowed its men alive.

Based on “The New York Times” #1 bestselling memoir 'Rocket Boys' by former NASA engineer and Allen Media Strategies client Homer Hickam, the movie 'October Sky' was a blockbuster hit on the silver screen, capturing the imagination of international audiences. 'Rocket Boys', the basis for this musical, is a vivid portrait of the tiny West Virginia mining town of Hickam's youth, evoking a time of innocence and promise, when anything was possible, even in a company town that swallowed its men alive.

This beloved story, one of the most read by high school and middle school students in the USA for the past decade, returns to Theatre West Virginia for a limited run as ‘Rocket Boys the Musical.’ A complete production of 'Rocket Boys the Musical' will be staged by Theatre West Virginia at their 1,260 seat Cliffside Amphitheater July 18 – July 22. As an added treat, rocket launches will take place before each evening’s show at 7:00p.m. so come early and watch rockets reach for the sky just as they did all those years ago at Camp Coalwood.

Since retiring from NASA, Hickam has penned over a dozen best-sellers in addition to 'Rocket Boys.’ Allen Media Strategies client Homer Hickam is available for media interviews to discuss:

  • The iconic back-story of the original 'Rocket Boys' and where they are now
  • Why the Rocket Boys/October Sky story seems to touch so many people around the world
  • How the book, and now the musical, have helped folks all over the world, including in Homer's home region of southern West Virginia
  • How Homer feels about having his life turned into a blockbuster movie, and now a musical
