Jack Godwin’s New Book “Life and Its Possible Side Effects” is a Hilarious Memoir Starring Real Characters and Retold Antics from the Author’s Childhood.
PINSON, Ala. (PRWEB) May 10, 2018 -- Jack Godwin, an electrical estimator, project manager, and part-time musician and songwriter from Birmingham, Alabama, has completed his new book “Life and Its Possible Side Effects”: a comical yet poignant collection of anecdotes from the author’s childhood and the people who shaped it.
Author Godwin writes about how unlikely it once seemed for him to undertake this project: “I hated English class in school.
The first bad grade I ever received was in Mrs. Troxler’s class in eighth grade, a D+ or, as I explained to my parents, ‘That is no ordinary D. I got me a D with a chance.’
English class was boring and made little sense.
Hell, I even received an F in handwriting from the same teacher. I was somewhat concerned with the progress of my education, so I asked the teacher, ‘I never got me a D or F in all my years of schooling and my parents grounded me for six weeks.’
The teacher clasped her hands.
I had seen this little gesture before; she was going to give it to me straight. ‘Jackson, I thought it necessary to give you those grades because your language rules are poor and your handwriting was so difficult to read I couldn’t make heads or tails of what you were trying to say.’
I said, ‘So, you couldn’t read my essays?’
The teacher replied, ‘No.’
‘So how did you know mine was bad?’”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Jack Godwin’s new book is an imaginative tribute to the people who molded the man he became. Inspired by the author’s grandson, Austin, the stories retain a childlike silliness despite its adult jokes.
Readers who wish to experience this charming work can purchase “Life and Its Possible Effects” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
