NCPDP and MedImpact Announce Partnership to Develop API for Real-time Access to NCPDP’s Pharmacy Database Products
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (PRWEB) May 08, 2018 -- NCPDP, the problem-solving forum for healthcare and ANSI accredited standards development organization, and MedImpact, an independent, trend-focused pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), announced today a development partnership to create an application program interface (API) to support real-time access to pharmacy data in NCPDP's pharmacy database products: resQ™, an industry pharmacy credentialing resource, and dataQ®, a robust database of information on more than 80,000 pharmacies.
"This development project with MedImpact demonstrates our commitment to giving the healthcare industry the tools it needs to simplify and improve the way they do business,” said NCPDP President and CEO, Lee Ann Stember. “It is the next step in the evolution of our product suite to make it easier for our subscribers to access the most up-to-date, reliable pharmacy and credentialing data.”
The two organizations partnered to streamline efficiencies in collecting and accessing non-patient pharmacy data and documents, which will significantly reduce the burdensome expense and effort to create and access this data. The API will eliminate the need for database customers to store pharmacy data files on local servers and allows them to access the data through the cloud, providing real-time, accurate pharmacy data to improve claims processing and business operations. In addition to the API, the organizations are developing single sign-on capabilities to further streamline data access, increase user efficiencies and remove the need for multiple user names and passwords.
MedImpact is developing an industry first Pharmacy Portal which will utilize NCPDP's resQ™ file in real time, reducing the data collection burden on both pharmacy and MedImpact and demonstrating the value of NCPDP’s comprehensive database products. MedImpact has made a significant technology investment to assist its network of pharmacies in streamlining their current process, reducing the significant time and costs incurred in managing pharmacy and pharmacy affiliation data.
The MedImpact Pharmacy Portal leverages NCPDP Pharmacy Database Products via the API and will serve as a single secure tool for pharmacies to transparently manage all their interactions with MedImpact, including but not limited to:
• Enrollment
• Credentialing
• Audits
• Invoice Payment
• Important and Time Critical Communications
• Response to Mandatory State Regulatory Requirements
This effort marks the second development project NCPDP and MedImpact have worked on in the last two years. Most recently, MedImpact was a development partner for NCPDP's pharmacy credentialing resource, resQ™. Once released, NCPDP plans to offer API and single sign-on access development capabilities for all three of its database products: dataQ®, resQ™ and HCIdea® prescriber database, later this year.
“We highly value the ongoing collaborative partnership we have with NCPDP to help drive standards and efficiencies for pharmacies, which is a win for us all in healthcare,” said Greg Watanabe, MedImpact President and Chief Operating Officer. “Our collective goal is to continue to improve processes and standards by which healthcare services are managed, and this project will help our pharmacies do business more efficiently, giving them more time to focus on patient care.”
