VanKirk shares how an ordinary day outdoors with his cats proved pivotal to his faith: “I could not believe that my cat basking in the sun had evolved from some Jurassic reptile seventy million years ago. I couldn’t believe that my cat was a random occurrence that happened under the all-inclusive explanation of evolution.
The sun that warmed my cat that summer day was just right, not too close to the earth and not too far away. Gravity was just right and so was the air we were breathing. I could not then and do not now believe that all this was the result of ages and ages of cosmic goop mixing, and by pure luck becoming the earth that my cat and I were on. This could not be the evolution that many scientists believe and would have us believe, and this definitely could not be coincidence. This had to be more. This was the beginning of my road back to God and to faith.”
