Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township and itslearning Selected as Finalists for 2018 IMS Global Learning Impact Awards
BOSTON (PRWEB) May 09, 2018 -- Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township (MSD Wayne) and itslearning, an internationally acclaimed learning management system (LMS), are finalists in the IMS Global Consortium’s 2018 Learning Impact Awards program. Their entry in the Evolution to Next Generation Digital Learning Environments: Using LMS Interoperability to Power and Drive Student-Centered Learning, is advancing to the final round of competition, which will take place at the 2018 Learning Impact Leadership Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, 21-24 May.
The annual Learning Impact Awards competition identifies innovative applications of educational technology that have high potential to improve learning impact and experiences through increased student access, improved student outcomes, and greater affordability. An expert panel of judges will use eight criteria for determining the learning impact of entries among the 26 finalist projects. In addition to the panel, the broader edtech community is invited to review and vote on the final projects. Public voting closes at noon EDT on Wednesday, May 23.
“Voice and choice are critical aspects of student-centered learning in the modern classroom. That was the central tenet of MSD Wayne’s mission to provide equitable and efficient access to digital content in order to give its students the autonomy to make decisions about their learning. They selected itslearning as their partner to meet that challenge,” said Arne Bergby, CEO of itslearning. “Now their students have anytime, anywhere access to a digital library of highly-curated and millions of varied resources through any type of device, giving that voice and choice in their learning.”
In its submission to the awards program, MSD Wayne Township and itslearning highlighted four key gains or “returns on technology investment,” including Anytime, Anywhere Access; Expanded Access to Resources; Safe, Collaborative Learning Spaces; and Individual Learning Paths.
“If we want students to have a voice and a choice in their learning we have to put them in the driver’s seat,” said Michele Eaton, director of virtual and blended learning, MSD Wayne. “In our “Wayne Learning Hub,” we have created a complete digital learning environment for our teachers and students. In addition to being used as a digital learning environment, our LMS is the primary tool we use for curriculum management. This makes our LMS the perfect space for student learning and engagement and teacher collaboration and planning.
Bergby concluded, “The success of this project – the implementation of a smart repository of highly-curated resources as a tool to drive student-centered learning – has resulted in not just a hub of collaboration, personalization, curriculum and instruction but also a central connection for all MSD Wayne staff, students and parents.”
Medal winners will be announced during the Learning Impact Leadership Institute awards luncheon on May 24.
