“Surviving the Epidemic”: an intimate firsthand account of childhood abuse. “Surviving the Epidemic” is the creation of published author MonaLisa Bauman, a survivor of child abuse who now dedicates her life to identifying, exposing, and eradicating it as a cancer of society.
Bauman shares the moment her story was finally being brought to light, “I hated going to people’s houses that knew because I would also get that ‘poor child’ look from the adults and the children acted as if I had a rare disease. This was a walking, talking conversation that I could not hide or run from. When it came time to go talk to the prosecuting attorney, I was ready to put all this behind me and move on. Mother told me what she wanted me to tell Sarah McGowan the prosecuting attorney. When we arrived at the office, the thirty-year old woman with brown hair and green eyes called for MonaLisa. Mother stood up first and the nice-looking woman said, ‘Are you her mom?’ Mother said yes. ‘Please have a seat. I just want to talk to the child. I will walk her out when I am done, then we can talk.’”
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, MonaLisa Bauman’s new book is a provocative look at the disturbing reality of dysfunctional families and the lifelong mental and emotional consequences it produces in children raised in such nightmarish circumstances.
“Surviving the Epidemic” is meant to be just the beginning in the author’s series of her epic survival story. MonaLisa Bauman hopes that through telling her own story, she can help start the conversation that will one day eradicate it from all homes.
