High School Standout, Page Brown, to Serve as Windjammer Days Parade Grand Marshal
BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine (PRWEB) May 09, 2018 -- This year’s Windjammers Days Street Parade will be led by a grand marshal who is a leader in every aspect of her life. Page Brown, a senior at Boothbay Region High School, serves not only her school but also her community in ways that most 18-year-olds haven’t attained.
Page is salutatorian of her senior class and a member of the National Honor Society. Her academic excellence, however, is only the start.
Page Brown is class president and chief editor of the school newspaper and the yearbook.
She was selected to win the Maine Principals Association senior award.
Mark Gorey, Boothbay Region High School English Teacher said, “Page has been my advisee for four years, and a student in my AP courses for two years. As a student, she has always challenged herself to achieve her personal best. As a citizen, Page inspires me through her willingness to shoulder and to steward extracurricular responsibilities--from fundraisers to policy changes to student-government projects--all to foster a greater good. I have no doubt that she will continue to be a catalyzing leader in her collegiate, municipal and professional communities.
In sports, she excelled in basketball, where she scored 1400 points and was player of the year twice. She also played lacrosse and field hockey, where she set the school record for assists and was named all-state. She was named twice to the National Field Hockey Coaches Associations All-Academic Team, which is a national honor.
“Page Brown is a leader who was selected to be her Class President and has been selected by her teammates and coaches to serve as Team Captain in field hockey, basketball and lacrosse, said Donna Jordan, BRHS Field Hockey and Girls Lacrosse Coach. “Page takes on any challenge presented to her and will complete that challenge with 100% effort. She is a great ambassador for our school and community and represents our community well.”
These accomplishments are just some of the outstanding attributes of Page Brown.
On the honor of being grand marshal of the Windjammers Day Street Parade, Page shared this: “It’s huge. I have grown up around this festival and celebration, always watched it and been involved.
“It means a lot to even be considered given the caliber of the past grand marshals, such as the Blakes from last year who have a successful boatyard. Being considered at that level is such a great honor. I am really excited about being a part of this event!”
Page Brown plans to major in secondary education and history at St. Joseph’s College in Windham, beginning this fall. No surprise—she hopes to play basketball.
Page will preside over the Windjammer Days Street Parade, a Boothbay Harbor tradition, on Wednesday June 27, at 4:00 p.m.
